You’ve spent years developing your clinical knowledge, assessment skills and professional judgement. But what if you could continue using those skills without the nights, weekends and unpredictable shift patterns?

We’re recruiting for PIP Disability Assessors in Farnborough, offering healthcare professionals the opportunity to take their careers in a new direction while continuing to make a meaningful difference to people’s lives.

Working as a Functional Assessor with Serco’s Health Assessment Advisory Service, you’ll carry out assessments on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), exploring how an individual’s health conditions or disabilities affect their daily living and mobility.

You’ll use your clinical expertise to gather information, review medical evidence and produce clear, factual assessment reports.

No previous Functional Assessor experience required. Comprehensive training, dedicated trainers and ongoing clinical support provided.

What’s in It for You?

  • Salary: £40,000 increasing to £42,000 after 12 months (depending on postcode/location)
  • Location: Farnborough
  • Full-time and part-time opportunities
  • Monday–Friday working pattern
  • Hybrid working, combining home and clinic-based assessments
  • Salary increments at 6 and 12 months during your first year
  • Quality-related bonus opportunities following successful approval
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Option to purchase up to five additional days
  • Up to 6% employer-matched pension contribution
  • Annual professional registration fees covered
  • Four dedicated CPD days per year
  • One-to-one clinical coaching and professional development
  • Employee discounts across leisure, retail and hospitality
  • Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support
  • Opportunities to progress into Clinical Coaching, Clinical Training, Clinical Authoring and Clinical Standards Auditor positions

What you’ll be doing:

  • Conducting structured PIP assessments by telephone, face-to-face or online, depending on the assessment
  • Reviewing customer information and medical evidence before assessments
  • Gathering relevant clinical and functional information through consultations
  • Exploring how physical, sensory, mental health and cognitive conditions affect daily living and mobility
  • Applying clinical reasoning and critically analysing the evidence available
  • Producing accurate, factual and objective assessment reports
  • Communicating with empathy, compassion and sensitivity throughout the assessment process

Your reports will support the DWP in making decisions about benefit entitlement. You won’t be responsible for diagnosing conditions, providing medical advice or making the final benefit decision.

To be considered, you’ll need:

  • Active, full professional registration with no restrictions
  • Registration with the relevant regulatory body: NMC, HCPC or GPhC, depending on your profession
  • At least 12 months of relevant UK post-registration clinical experience
  • Strong clinical reasoning and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, listening and report-writing abilities
  • Confidence using IT systems and digital platforms
  • The ability to work independently and manage deadlines
  • A professional, empathetic and customer-focused approach
  • A commitment to training and ongoing development

Eligible professions:

  • Registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD)
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Paramedics
  • Pharmacists

Full UK right to work is required. Sponsorship is not available.

Is This the Right Move for You? This opportunity could be ideal if you’re looking to:

  • Step away from traditional shift work and hands-on care
  • Enjoy a more structured working week
  • Continue using your clinical knowledge and professional judgement
  • Develop your assessment, analytical and report-writing skills
  • Work in a supportive, clinically led environment
  • Maintain your professional identity while exploring a different career pathway
  • Build a long-term career with ongoing training and progression

Please note: This role involves detailed report writing, computer-based work, structured assessments and working towards quality and service standards. It may not suit those who prefer exclusively hands-on clinical care or are looking for a fully remote position.

If you’re ready to trade the traditional shift pattern for a new challenge where your experience is valued and your professional judgement matters, we’d love to hear from you.
