We’re looking for experienced Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to join Serco as WCA Functional Assessors in Reading.
You’ll continue making a meaningful difference, but in a role focused on clinical assessment, professional judgement and evidence-based reporting rather than hands-on treatment.
What Will Your New Role Involve? As a Functional Assessor, you’ll carry out Work Capability Assessments to understand how an individual’s health conditions affect their ability to work and undertake work-related activities.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out structured assessments with individuals with a variety of physical and mental health conditions.
- Exploring medical histories and understanding how conditions affect everyday functioning.
- Assessing mobility, daily activities and functional limitations.
- Reviewing medical evidence and using your clinical knowledge to evaluate the information available.
- Applying clinical reasoning and professional judgement to reach objective conclusions.
- Producing clear, accurate and detailed assessment reports.
You’ll be using the skills you already have in a completely different setting. There is no diagnosing, prescribing or hands-on patient care.

Do You Have What It Takes? We’re looking for candidates who have:
- Current registration with the NMC or HCPC.
- A background as a Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.
- At least 12 months of post-registration clinical experience.
- Strong communication and written skills.
- Confidence applying clinical knowledge and making independent decisions.
- The ability to manage their workload and work independently.
